Lose fat, build muscle safely.

If you read this advertisement like I did the other day with a phone number behind it, who wouldn’t want to call?!  When I read this it could have took on several different contexts.  This could be a fitness instructor advertising a Bootcamp or fitness class.  It could be a nutritionist or Dietitian advertising how food affects your body composition goals.  Or, it could have been someone selling supplements.  Before you pick up the phone to dial the number, you should know what questions to ask when you call.

1.       What are the person’s credentials that will help you accomplishment this?

No one really cares what type of people are teaching others how to lose fat and build muscle.  Therefore, anyone, including you can put this sign on the back of your car and hope the phone rings soon!  If you buy into this statement, you should also feel the need to want to know who and what you’re getting yourself into.  Does this person have a degree in anything?  Nutrition, kinesiology, exercise physiology?  Then, what is it they’re selling you?  Food, supplements, exercise?  It’s okay to ask questions…you’re giving them a job!

2.       Will they use food first?

If you see this sign and the first thing the seller tries to do is sell you a supplement, you might as well end the conversation there.  Pills and powders never got anyone anywhere but in trouble.  If they’re not going to use food over supplementation, there’s no chance you’ll lose fat, gain muscle and keep if off.  Plus, using only supplements for fat loss and muscle gain is far from safe.  If they plan to use supplementation as part of a food plan, then keep asking questions!

3.       Do they incorporate exercise?

If the person you’ve called has passed all of your questions so far but they never bring up the importance of exercise, again, move on.  Exercise and nutrition work together to help individuals reach their fitness and health goals.  It’s unlikely you’ll get the end result you seek without both.  I’m not saying it can’t happen, but it is highly unlikely!

If you can get these three questions answered and you feel a connection with the person you called, that’s great news!  Cheers to losing fat and gaining muscle safely!
