Eve-ville 100 – The Final Training

I failed to mention the part about how I’d taken 10 days off of training (other than the 14er).  I called coach Steve panicking and not having the least bit of clue how to pick back up.  After 10 days off, I just picked right back up where I left off and followed the schedule he gave me.  This may only be the 2nd time in my life I’ve followed 100% what a coach said.  Except, I added one thing.  I...

Leadwoman – Leadville 100 MTB (8/10/19) (3rd/5 events)

4 a.m. came early.  It was a 6 a.m. race start.  Usually, I eat breakfast 2.5-3 hours out, but the first part of Leadville is a very fast downhill for nearly 30 minutes before climbing so I would have that time to digest food longer than normal.  I was fortunate to have moved up 2 corrals from 3 years prior.  I was convinced this would help a lot.  People at the back walk a lot more.  And they do it...

Leadwoman – Silver Rush 50 (7/7/19) (2nd/5 events)

It was the girl’s first trip to Colorado and they couldn’t wait to get there.  We stayed in Salida.  I really liked this decision because it was south of Leadville.  It wasn’t as far of a drive compared to where I was scheduled to stay the following month.  We overnighted in Amarillo at the same place we’d stayed for Memorial Day weekend and made it for the Salida 4th of July parade and...

Leadwoman – July 2019

In July, I ran ~161 miles and rode ~423 miles.  This is the month things really started to fall apart in my personal and work life. I was no longer useful at home.  I was brain dead all the time.  I was forgetful.  I was sooooo tired.  I was going to bed at 8:30 right after I put the girls down.  LP and I never saw each other because...

Leadwoman – Leadville Marathon (6/15/19) (1st/5 events)

I went to Leadville for the first time this month to run the marathon.  This was the first of the five events.  I went alone.  It was at this race I realized the layer of stress that bringing the girls caused. It wasn’t until I didn’t bring them that I realized this.  This would become important for the later races.  My friend, Eugene, was there...

Leadwoman – 24 Hours in the Canyon (6/1-2/19)

The first weekend of June, I loaded up the girls and we went to Palo Duro Canyon for 24 hours in the Canyon.  This was a bike race.  I had done 6-hour event 3 years ago and won.  By a pretty big margin actually.  I was not in as good of shape on trails this time around so my goal was to ride 6 hours first day and 6 hours the second day.  As the name indicates, you can ride for 24 hours straight if you...

Leadwoman – June 2019

In June, I ran ~161 miles and rode ~342 miles.  By June, my running body was feeling better and I got my running mileage back up.  This meant less time on the bike though.  It was such a balancing act.  June was a series of back-to-back traveling to do events. And lists.  Lots and lots of lists.  For camping, for road traveling, for plane traveling, for racing.  Even with all the lists, I still...

Leadwoman – May 2019

In May, I ran ~126 miles and rode ~523 miles.  In May, I was still having some pain running (hence, the lower run mileage).  My yoga studio was going to be closing down so I wouldn’t have that anymore.  My warming up before running religiously evolved into dynamic stretching also.  I was stretching in the shower.  Stretching during breaks at work.  It...

Leadwoman – Hell’s Hills (4/6/19) and Red River Riot (4/20/19) (Character Building)

I had smartened up somewhat now and knew better about running too long on trails.  For Hell’s Hills, I signed up for the 25K.  It would be a weekend alone.  I stayed at Coach Steve and Kat’s (about an hour from race site) and they fed me well the night before the race.  It was Kat’s birthday dinner! It was predicted to rain.  And rain it did.  It pretty much rained the entire...

Leadwoman – April 2019

In April , I ran ~132 miles and rode ~302 miles.  April was really tough for some reason.  Oh wait, it couldn’t have been the 2 travel races, wedding and traveling for a conference.  It was the first time I missed some workouts just because I didn’t feel like doing them. It started with 3/31 and not wanting to trail run and that bled over to 4/1 and 4/2 where I just took days off. I also...
