Top 10 Thanksgiving Survival Tips
1) Eat breakfast. If you skip breakfast on a holiday you can bet you’ll indulge WAY too much. Don’t save the calories for the meal because you’re still going to eat more than normal.
2) Exercise in the morning. It makes you feel good about yourself and controls appetite! Do a Turkey Trot or walk around the neighborhood. My favorite think to do is find a trail and explore.
3) Drink water. This will help you pay better attention to hunger/satiety cues. And, the best thing is it doesn’t have any calories!
4) Put on the skinny jeans. They’re a great reminder that you’re full!
5) One plate rule. Get one plate and put whatever you want on it, including dessert, and stop there. Make sure you try everything you love! The rest will be there next year!
6) Healthier Options. You can explore ways to make minor changes to recipes to cut down on calories since that is the number 1 mistake at Thanksgiving…too many calories.
7) Don’t hang out by table. After eating, get away from the food! Don’t even stay in the same room as the food if possible.
8) Put food away immediately. If it’s at your home, you may have this option. Let everyone enjoy the meal and then put it up. I assure you, no one else needs to be eating seconds or thirds either…not to mention food safety.
9) Drink hot tea. When you start getting antsy in the afternoon or after dinner, drink tea.
10) Be active. Play with the kids, grandkids, nieces or nephews. Play a game. Do something that will keep your mind from wondering back over to the food.
