Bandera 50K Race Report….it’s a long one!

The strange thing about Bandera, unlike any other race is I never got nervous about it.  I think I knew going in it was going to be a long day no matter what and I wasn’t racing it, so I just never got nervous about it.  I never questioned whether I was going to finish (like I’m freaking out about the 50 miler as I write this!)  It was pretty much just another race.  Because life is so hectic for...

Take care of your body…it’s the only one you’ve got.

I am truly amazed on a daily basis at the lifestyles my clients lead.  My clients are moms, dads, students, short-order cooks, employees, business owners, husbands, wives, mothers, fathers, grandparents, gardeners, coaches, Presidents of their local trade organizations or PTA, superbly organized AND they still find time for exercise and training. The amount these people can do in one day is unfathomed by...

What my mom said when I told her I was running 50 miles

I decided to bite the bullet and do one of those once-in-a-lifetime things.  I haven’t considered doing anything like this since Ironman over 6 years ago.  I get a lot of different reactions when I tell people I’m going to run a 50-mile trail race. I’m truly an overthinker.  I can overthink A-N-Y-T-H-I-N-G.  But, this time I didn’t. Where this tall tale began was in my mind.  I learned I would...

Use What You Have In The House

This one of those “use what you have in the house” recipes.  I did a Google search for quinoa, tomato, onion, spinach, and bell pepper, and added recipe to the end.  These are things I had available to cook at the moment.  It took me a few seconds to sort through about 5 recipes to make sure I had all of the ingredients.  Here’s the recipe that I chose: http://bit.ly/Qprfi0. Here are...

Running Makes Me Happy – Longview 1/2 Marathon Race Report

This ½ marathon was sort of surreal for me.  Going back to run in my hometown.  I actually didn’t sign up until the day before.  The weather was funny and honestly I had NO desire to run my last race of the season in heat and humidity.  I help saying I don’t want to have a bad race at the end of my season.  But, the race went right by the house I group up and lived in for 18 years.  How could I...

White Rock Race Report

Although it’s been a WHILE since I posted, it seems appropriate to begin with one of the best things that happened in 2010.  WARNING: Most of my blogs (when I was blogging regularly) are under 400 words…this one is over 3000.  Enjoy! I will preface this by saying it’s LONG!  I haven’t written a race report since Ironman in 2006 and I’m pretty sure I won’t write another report until I...

Skinny Jeans don’t fit?

The other day I went to put on a pair of jeans and they were uncomfortable tight! At first my mind immediately went to…oh no, I wonder what I weigh (haven’t been on the scale in months)…what am I going to wear now…when was the last time I put these pants on…how could I let this happen…etc., etc., etc. Luckily I snapped out of it and logically thought through why my skinny jeans don’t fit....
