Leadwoman – 24 Hours in the Canyon (6/1-2/19)

The first weekend of June, I loaded up the girls and we went to Palo Duro Canyon for 24 hours in the Canyon.  This was a bike race.  I had done 6-hour event 3 years ago and won.  By a pretty big margin actually.  I was not in as good of shape on trails this time around so my goal was to ride 6 hours first day and 6 hours the second day.  As the name indicates, you can ride for 24 hours straight if you...

Leadwoman – April 2019

In April , I ran ~132 miles and rode ~302 miles.  April was really tough for some reason.  Oh wait, it couldn’t have been the 2 travel races, wedding and traveling for a conference.  It was the first time I missed some workouts just because I didn’t feel like doing them. It started with 3/31 and not wanting to trail run and that bled over to 4/1 and 4/2 where I just took days off. I also...

Leadwomen – Life outside of training in March

The eve-ventures still had to continue somehow!  We hadn’t been doing as many fun family outings!  Or, they all revolved around training and racing.  So off to Fort Worth Botanical Gardens Lantern Festival we went.  On a school night! I had my last dress fitting and that was that!  I paid someone for the first time to clean up my yard.  That was sooooo hard for me!...

Leadwoman – Cowtown Marathon (2/24/19)

The week going into Cowtown was rough!  Madison made me do a recovery ride that Wednesday instead of what was on my schedule because I was just done.  The last minute massage from Cyril helped! Cowtown Marathon itself was so much fun for me!  I took my phone and had no expectations.  I ran some pretty solid splits and thankfully just stayed with Amy Clark most of the time (she was the pacer for the...

Leadwoman – turned 40 and lost my dad

Back to 2016…my dad had landed in the hospital for a surgery in Houston that just didn’t go as planned.  He really never recovered.  Over the next 3 years, he became sicker and eventually passed away in December of 2018. I can remember when he was in the hospital in 2016 talking about my training for Leadville.  I don’t know if he ever quite understood why I did what I did.  But, he was...

I admit it, I’m addicted….

To RUNNING that is!  Get your mind out of the gutter!  In all seriousness, I do have a very addictive personality like many Type A’s do.  Someone told me once it was genetic, but they’re also blaming obesity on genetics and I don’t believe that for 2 seconds!  So, here I am on this earth learning how to deal with it.  In my life fortunately I have 2 things going for me.  1) I have managed to...

Skinny Jeans don’t fit?

The other day I went to put on a pair of jeans and they were uncomfortable tight! At first my mind immediately went to…oh no, I wonder what I weigh (haven’t been on the scale in months)…what am I going to wear now…when was the last time I put these pants on…how could I let this happen…etc., etc., etc. Luckily I snapped out of it and logically thought through why my skinny jeans don’t fit....

How I can turn brushing my teeth into something nutrition related

As you might have seen in the last post I went to the dentist last week.  I’ve always had extremely sensitive teeth.  So sensitive, in fact, that it’s hard to eat fruit straight out of the refrigerator.  Part of the reason for this is because my gums are receding and the roots are exposed.  I actually had to have surgery for this when I went about seven…it was called a gum graft where they...

Pity Party

After a week long pity party, I’m over it and back to my running life.  After last Tuesday’s track workout (which kicked my butt by the way), I haven’t touched the running shoes.  In fact, the only exercise I’ve done in one week’s time is Wii Bowling and Tennis and Dance, Dance Revolution.  I even went as far as telling saying, “I’m through with running!”  I take it back…I...

The Psychology of Nutrition: PART 1

You wake up one morning and get on the scale.  It’s higher than usual (let’s say by 10 pounds.)   It’s been several weeks since you’ve weighed, but you certainly didn’t think it would be that high!  You knew you’re clothes were feeling a little tight though.  How do you respond to this? You’re going to grab a banana for breakfast that morning instead of eating the bowl of cereal you’ve...
