Leadwoman – June 2019

In June, I ran ~161 miles and rode ~342 miles.  By June, my running body was feeling better and I got my running mileage back up.  This meant less time on the bike though.  It was such a balancing act.  June was a series of back-to-back traveling to do events. And lists.  Lots and lots of lists.  For camping, for road traveling, for plane traveling, for racing.  Even with all the lists, I still...

Jemez Mountains 50k (5/25/19)

On memorial day weekend, instead of going to a party I’ve been to for at least 7 years straight, I packed the girls up and we headed to New Mexico for a 50k.  This was a key race for me since it would be my first at altitude.  We overnighted in Amarillo.  At this point, my stress levels were just continuing to increase.  I had very little time to do anything but work (some) and train (a lot).  So...

Leadwoman – May 2019

In May, I ran ~126 miles and rode ~523 miles.  In May, I was still having some pain running (hence, the lower run mileage).  My yoga studio was going to be closing down so I wouldn’t have that anymore.  My warming up before running religiously evolved into dynamic stretching also.  I was stretching in the shower.  Stretching during breaks at work.  It...

Leadwoman – SCAN Symposium in Phoenix (4/27-28/19)

Here I am.  At the same conference that all of this started at a year ago.  Where I had learned that altitude could be acclimated to with multiple exposures.  I had a lot of training to get in that weekend so I wasn’t too sure how much of the conference I would be attending.  Fortunately, there are a lot of active dietitians that always do fun things with me at these conferences.  Off the...

Leadwoman – Life outside of training April (Wedding, Award, Easter egg hunt)

Obviously, the most important event outside of training this month was the wedding.  It got rained out.  Fortunately, everyone was planning on staying the night in Fort Worth anyways and my amazing hairdresser (Monica) and caterer (Z’s cafe and catering) came through for us!  We were married!  My stress levels were at an all time high.  My brother came through on wedding day and kicked everyone...

Leadwoman – Hell’s Hills (4/6/19) and Red River Riot (4/20/19) (Character Building)

I had smartened up somewhat now and knew better about running too long on trails.  For Hell’s Hills, I signed up for the 25K.  It would be a weekend alone.  I stayed at Coach Steve and Kat’s (about an hour from race site) and they fed me well the night before the race.  It was Kat’s birthday dinner! It was predicted to rain.  And rain it did.  It pretty much rained the entire...

Leadwoman – March 2019

In March, I ran ~172 miles and rode ~320 miles.  This was starting to get time consuming.  Since LP works on Saturdays so I had to drag the girls with me to Saturday races and/or let them run/ride with me at the end of training sessions.  This turned into them camping for the first time, helping hand out medals at races and doing their first trail race which they looked forward to.  I’d never run...

Leadwoman – February 2019

In February, I ran ~143 miles and rode ~240 miles.  So many people were so encouraging.  By now, I was letting it leak a little bit what I had signed up for. But, it depended on who asked.  If a runner asked, I just told them I was training for Leadville 100.  If a cyclist asked, I would say Leadville 100 MTB.  It was a pain to explain the whole series and quite frankly, most people didn’t...

Leadwoman – Cowtown Marathon (2/24/19)

The week going into Cowtown was rough!  Madison made me do a recovery ride that Wednesday instead of what was on my schedule because I was just done.  The last minute massage from Cyril helped! Cowtown Marathon itself was so much fun for me!  I took my phone and had no expectations.  I ran some pretty solid splits and thankfully just stayed with Amy Clark most of the time (she was the pacer for the...

Leadwoman – the training schedule

I wrote my own schedule to begin with.  I absolutely HAVE to plan ahead.  I was teaching at TCU Spring semester.  I had to consider that LP started a new job and the girls schedules.  I needed to know, generally speaking, what my life was going to look like training and racing over the coming months.  I had coaches Gary Anderson, Madison Flowers and Steve Blackmon look at it.  None of them seemed to...
